FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ATTENDANCE:
How many classes am I allowed to miss?
No days can be missed but three days can be rescheduled and made up.
- If you are a weekday student, you can make up a class by attending a weekend session.
- If you are a weekend student, you can make up a class by attending a weekday session.
- If a student has a more challenging attendance circumstance, then an individualized plan with the classroom instructor will be established to make up classroom assignments during missed days.
What will happen if I do not make up classes?
You will be dropped from the class and any and all payments made will be lost. You can register for another class session, but you will have to pay again.
INSURANCE/LEGAL AND CERTIFICATION:
Is EDS Driving School insured?
Yes. Students are under our insurance when they drive with us.
Are EDS instructors licensed and do they have background checks?
Yes. All driver’s education instructors must be licensed by the State of Illinois and are required to have a background check.
Is EDS Driving School a state certified program?
Yes. We are fully licensed by the Secretary of States Office in Illinois.
PERMIT AND BEHIND THE WHEEL TRAINING:
How does the permit process work?
- Students must be 15 years of age to obtain a permit.
- Once the student is in class with us for 4 hours (two class room sessions), we will give the student their permit applications.
- Parents will then have to take the student to the DMV with the application where they will take a written exam and an eye exam to obtain their permits.
- Students must then turn in a copy of the permit to EDS Driving School. Otherwise, we cannot process a future class completion.
How does the Behind The Wheel (“BTW”) training work?
- EDS has home pick up and drop off service.
- EDS does not provide home pick up and drop off for classroom training. This is only for the BTW training.
- Students can start to drive with us once all of the classroom training is completed and the student is paid in full.
- Students must drive for 6 hours and observe a fellow student for 6 hours. Once a student is picked up from home, they will be out for two hours and they will do this 6 times. There may be some instances where we do not have an observer in the car. In this case, the student will be home in one hour.
- Students are more than welcome to drive in pairs. We encourage friends to drive together, but not 3 at one time as this is too long for you when observing the other students.
- If a student does not have a driving partner that is OK as we will pair them up with another person.
- If a student moves 35 miles outside of an EDS Driving School location during their BTW training, we will not be able to drive unless the student gets dropped off at an EDS Driving School location or at a location within the 35 miles from an EDS Driving School location for their pickup.
- Students must log 50 hours of practice time with a parent. This is a State of Illinois requirement. The log form may be found at: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/publications/pdf_publications/dsd_x152.pdf.
- Students will need this log filled out when they go to the DMV in the future for their road test (to get their license).
- Students must always have their permits with them (NOT the permit exam receipt) when they are in the car practicing with us. If a student does not have their permit with them, EDS instructors will not drive with them and the student will be charged a $25.00 cancellation fee.
- If you cancel a BTW appointment in less than 24 hours, there will be a $25.00 cancellation fee.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION/BLUE SLIP
What is the difference between a Certificate of Completion and a Blue Slip?
- There is no difference. A Certificate of Completion and Blue Slip are the same thing.
How do I get a certificate of completion for this driver education class?
- Students must first pass the class.
- TWO WEEKS after the student has finished their last BTW training, they will obtain their certificate from the State of Illinois (NOT from EDS Driving School).
- Students will get this certificate of completion ONLY when the following is completed:
1) The student must have turned in all of their required EDS Driving School paperwork:
-Parent Permission Form
-Grade Waiver Form
-Copy of permit
2) The student must have turned in a copy of their permit to EDS Driving School.
3) The student must be paid in full.
- Students are responsible for delivering their certificate of completion to their high school for class credit. It is not the responsibility of EDS Driving School.
LICENSE TIME
When can I get my license?
- Once the student receives their certificate of completion (read above) from the State of Illinois, the student is eligible to take the road test at the DMV to get their license.
- Students must pass the road test to get their license.
- Unlike high schools, we are not allowed to grant waivers for the road test.
PAYMENTS TO EDS DRIVING SCHOOL
How do payments to EDS Driving School work?
- There is a $75.00 deposit due when you sign up to hold a seat in class. This deposit is non-refundable/non-transferable, but can be used for a different class date/time if you need to make a change.
- The balance is due on the first day of class.
- If the balance is not paid in full by the first day of class, you will be charged a $25.00 late fee above your balance due.
- If the balance is not paid off within 1month, EDS Driving School will contact the State of Illinois and indicate that the student’s permit is no longer valid.
